I am happy to report that the production of “Cinderella” at the Village Hall on Friday, 6th January, with a matinée on Saturday 6th, was a roaring success. The hall was full to the brim at both performances with local families enjoying the show in the usual boisterous manner. This made all the preparations worthwhile.
A small sub-group comprising Jessica Bailey, Kate Fraser and Sylvia Gehring had planned the whole event in minute detail which made it a smooth operation on the day. I am also grateful to committee members and several others who pitched in to help set up, run and clear up afterwards. The Primary School not only lent us its staging but also provided the services of some Year Six pupils who are experts in setting up the stage. Much to our delight, tickets for the matinée on Saturday completely sold out within a few days of going on sale in early December, with the Friday evening show selling well right up to the day of performance. “Wonder Productions” put on a traditional panto full of music, comedy and slapstick. The jokes were aimed at all levels and included topical material. Their staging was superb and colourful and the five performers full of enthusiasm. The volume of noise from the audience demonstrated how well it was received. And there were ice creams at the interval! Will we do it again? OH YES WE WILL. (Provisional booking made for “Dick Whittington” on the same weekend next year, with performances on the Friday evening and a matinée on the Saturday afternoon). Precise dates will be confirmed later, so watch this space …… !
