Ottery Chamber of Commerce is planning its hugely popular Christmas Fun Day, Christmas Lights Switch-on and Late Night Shopping Event on Friday November 25th. The event has gone from strength to strength over the last few years, attracting more visitors from a wider area and with more Ottery St Mary shops and businesses becoming involved.

Once again, thanks to the Chamber of Commerce and Ottery Town Council, the town will be festooned with a super Christmas lights display.

Please visit the shops during the day, although the fun really starts in the evening after the Christmas lights have been switched on where you will see some shopkeepers dressed in festive costume.
Ottery shops will be open until 8.00pm offering a wide variety of goods, Christmas gift ideas and seasonal hospitality. Some of them will be offering prizes, special discounts for the day, competitions and demonstrations. Come and join in the fun!
At 5.45pm the picturesque torchlight procession will take place with the Parish Church choir singing carols and children in fancy dress, led down Silver Street from the Parish Church by Town Crier Dave Retter to the Council Office grounds in Broad Street. The 2011 Christmas lights will be switched on there at approximately 6.00pm. The ceremony will be performed by Andy Wade, Ottery Carnival Chairman, Ottery Carnival Royalty, Mayor Glyn Dobson and Chamber of Commerce Chairman Marc Perkins. This will be followed by more carol singing by the Parish Church choir.
To complete the festive occasion you will find Father Christmas in his Sleigh, competitions for children, street entertainers and much more.
Town Crier Dave Retter will be ringing his bell around town in the evening announcing the events. So come and join in - it will be fun for all the family and an ideal opportunity to snap up a Christmas bargain!
